Michael Spehn was born and raised in the small town of Seagoville, Texas on November 3, 1944. After graduating from Seagoville High School he left Texas and attended college at the University of Texas at Arlington. During this time he served as a member of the UTA Corps of Cadets and became a proud member of the ROTC program.
